Golf Courses
The overwhelming popularity of golfing in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado shouldn't come as a surprise to most people. Harboring a strong golf tradition and built on the foundation of skiing, the two sports share a handful of significant similarities ¬– not the least of which are the costs to participate and the resulting generally upscale, wealthy people. The golf courses in the area are some of the finest in the West, providing challenges, amazing scenery and crisp mountain air.
The public 18-hole golf course in Vail is the oldest in the valley and sponsors several tournaments throughout the season, including the Jerry Ford Invitational. Green fees are roughly $70 in the peak season between June and September. One of the most impressive courses is the Robert Trent Jones-designed links in Beaver Creek. Green fees for the 6,400-yard par-70 course are approximately $110 which includes a cart and discounts are offered in May.
Located within a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Vail are several golf courses of considerable reputation that offer less expensive green fees but quality golfing. In Edwards, located just west of Vail, is a top rated course which has been rated by Golf Digest as one of the top 50 courses in the country. You'll also find a number of fine golf courses just over Vail Pass in Summit County.
