Ice Skating
Winter in the mountain towns of Colorado is all about snow and having fun in it. In Vail and Beaver Creek skiing and snowboarding are the most popular activities to partake in by far, but if strapping boards to the bottom of your feet or squeezing into stiff boots just isn't your thing, no need to worry because there are other numerous activities to keep you busy ¬– like ice skating. Fun and easy on your body, the recreational activity of ice skating is a great way to enjoy the essence of winter if you don't ski or snowboard and is a perfect way to stretch your legs and lungs out on a rest day from riding the resort.
One positive aspect of ice skating is the lack of needing a lot of equipment. With a sharp pair of skates, mild athleticism and good balance anyone can have fun skating on ice. If you're looking for skates while you are in Vail, check out any of the outdoor sporting shops in the downtown and you might also be able to find a decent pair at a thrift shop if you time it right.
Besides skating on frozen ponds (obviously use your best judgment when skating on non maintained surfaces) and other safe suitable ice skating features, Vail is home to an indoor skating arena that is open to the public and offers skate rentals. So, if you're looking for something new to do while you're in the area or just want to relax on the ice, skating is not a bad option.
