Vail Valley preps: Eagle Valley falls, 5-0, in soccer opener go to article

GYPSUM - Eagle Valley's march back to Colorado prep soccer's Elite Eight was a step in the right direction, even if that step was painful, said coach Jason Ritmiller.
The Devils fell to Coal Ridge, 5-0, Thursday night, the first time the Titans have won their non-league match against Eagle Valley.
For Eagle Valley, the sun will come up tomorrow just like Li'l Orphan Annie says it will. When it does, Ritmiller says his team will have much different outlook on life.
"They'll come back tomorrow and they'll be a new team," he said, looking out at the field where the Devils had just been handed one of life's little character building moments.
For Coal Ridge, it was a big win for the consistently improving program.
"They took it to us the last two years," said Coal Ridge coach Brian Blair. "Jason has a great program. They've been to the final eight each of the last two years, and to play this well and win on the road is a huge confidence builder for

Vail Daily letter: You heard it here first go to article

Two policy positions promoted by the tea party-driven GOP leading up to the November midterms are to privatize Social Security and to end Medicare and replace it with a voucher system. While we ponder how our grandchildren are going to shoulder a huge national debt, we can add retirement and health care to the list of future generations' threats to quality of life.
Whenever the Republicans gain control of the legislative process, we will become no country for old people.
No doubt, Social Security and Medicare are in deep trouble. Various solutions have been proposed over the years that would have alleviated, if not resolved these problems, but many consecutive Congresses kept kicking the can down the road. Just one more reason why there will be a huge turnover in Congress come November and possibly 2012 as well.
Take heart. Like all things Republican, there is money to be made with every initiative. The very wealthy are already on to this, but here is a way for us middle-cl

Vail Daily letter: A weird reality go to article

Well, Bristol Palin has been announced as one of the dubious "celebrities" on the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars."
It leads me to wonder which family now holds the record for being the biggest bunch of shameless, hypocritical, opportunistic, ridiculous, transparent media whores whose complete credibility has been forfeited in favor of the bottom-feeding spotlight -- the Palins or the Blagojevichs?
In one breath, they whine about the press not leaving them alone and crying about how unfairly they and their family members are being treated and in the next, they are shoving their stupid faces in front of every low-life camera opportunity that presents itself. Especially when a buck is involved.
I think it's a tie, which proves once again that total idiocy is completely a bipartisan quality.

Vail Daily letter: Need traffic control go to article

As I sat in school traffic on Miller Ranch Road this morning, I wondered for the umpteenth time why the Eagle County Sheriff's Office was not there directing traffic.
Although this area is bad every morning when school is in, and in my opinion they should be there managing it daily, everyone in the valley should know that the lack of proper traffic flow due to the roundabouts being built in Edwards is making the morning traffic in this area considerably worse.
Leaving Singletree via I-70 is not an option at the moment. Leaving Miller Ranch Road via the Edwards spur road with only one "lane" is completely backed up, the bulk of that traffic is exiting via Miller Ranch Road to Highway 6.
This situation should be somewhat resolved within the next two-three weeks and during that time it would be great if the Sheriff's Office could provide traffic direction from 8-8:30 (at least).
Thanks for listening!
