Located very close to Vail on the Rockies Scenic Byway, Minturn is an old town with traditional values and friendly people. Stroll down the traditional main street and enjoy what the town has to offer.
Minturn's first settlers placed down roots where the Gore Creek and Eagle River come together in the late 1800s, unlike their neighbors at Vail and Beaver Creek. Some people built homesteads and were farmers, while other settlers mined silver in the mountains located above town.
When the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad arrived in 1887, Minturn soon transformed into a growing crossroads for transportation and industry. By the beginning of the twentieth century, the population started to include mining and railroad workers and their families. This in turn created more demand for businesses and services in town. As a result, Minturn was incorporated on November 15, 1904.
Minturn has changed over the years as the local economy grew, building the Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts, closing the Gilman mine, and abandoning the rail lines through Minturn.
