Even though this is a small stream, Gore Creek has some very large
fish! In the same day, it is possible to catch the "grand slam"
consisting of rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout. Gore
Creek has a great Caddis hatch in May and June and of course, the famed
Green Drake hatch in June and July. Please practice "catch and
release" to protect and preserve this delicate fishery.
The Eagle River is located almost entirely in Eagle County,
Colorado. The headwaters of the Eagle begin as a small creek on
the north side of Tennessee Pass and continue through the towns of
Minturn, Avon, Wolcott, Eagle, and Gypsum. From Gypsum the river
flows 8 miles to Dotsero and then dumps into the Colorado River.
The fishery is mainly comprised of cutthroat, rainbow, brook and brown
trout ranging in size depending on which stretch of river you are
fishing.
The Eagle River is a rocky, technical river with a number of tight
Class IV rapids during high water. Please hire a knowledgeable
outfitter if you plan on floating. Rafts are used almost
exclusively in this river. Leave your drift boat at home.
Fishing is permitted year- round. Please do not keep any fish
from the Eagle River as it is a fragile fishery and maintains 100% wild
trout within its banks.
