World Alpine Pond Skimming Championships
The ski season is ending and you are looking for something different and exciting to do. Well, if you are in or near Vail, Colorado, you could participate in the World Alpine Pond Skimming Championship. Held at the end of each season (dates are determined annually), this event is one of the highlights of the end of season festivities.
The Bacardi World Pond Skimming Championships take place each year on the frozen water at the Base of Golden Peak of Vail Mountain. Pond skimmers of all ages are invited to participate to defy the laws of gravity.
This is a fun end of the season event that is part of the Spring Back to Vail weekend festival that is much more fun to watch than participate in. If you've never witnessed adults with costumes and questionable IQ's try to ski across frigid water, then you should make an effort to get to this one of a kind event.
The don not try this at home waiver does not apply to pond skimming. To get the full effect try filling a fifty foot pond with 39 degree water and then try to ski across it. Of course, it will be much more fun if you dress in some outrageous costume and then propel yourself across the water.
