Eagle's Nest Wilderness
Some have speculated that when God wants a vacation, it goes to the wilderness areas of Colorado. One trip to the Eagles' Next Wilderness near Vail, Colorado and you will be able to understand the potential truth in this statement.
The Eagles' Nest Wilderness is located near Vail, Colorado in the White River and Arapaho National Forests. This designated wilderness area encompasses nearly 133,688 acres of wonderful scenic, vast National Forest areas. The elevations within the wilderness range from 7,850 to 13,534 feet.
There is ample opportunity to hiking and wildlife viewing on the 180 miles of constructed trails which are in the area. These trails are maintained and provide hiking experiences for both the beginner and the more advanced hiker. Even though it may be a struggle, most of the more difficult hikes are definitely worth the effort. Many of these higher trails provide a mental and physical challenge, but they often end in the high mountain valleys near scenic alpine lakes. There are other unofficial trails that also run through out the Wilderness area.
The Eagles' Nest Wilderness area is an area which is more vertical than horizontal, which makes foot travel somewhat strenuous. There are two trails, one located at the northern extreme of the wilderness and the other located at the southern extreme of the wilderness, each of which crosses entirely form one side of the wilderness to the other.
Eagles' Nest Wilderness is an area where getting back to nature truly becomes a reality.
