Colorado Ski Museum
Established in 1976, the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum/Ski and
Snowboard Hall of Fame, located at the top of the Vail Transportation
Center, is the keeper of Colorado's great skiing heritage and history.
For over 130 years, Colorado has been making skiing history. From the
early trappers and miners of the late 1800's, to the competitive high
tech racers of today, Colorado has constantly made its mark on the
skiing world. The state has contributed competitors, world class racers
and team coaches. It has been home to some of the best skiing and
snowboarding in the world.
The mission of the museum is to preserve and appreciate the legacy of
skiing and snowboarding in Colorado. Within the museum's collection are
over 1,500 photographs, artifacts, pieces of equipment, and articles of
clothing representing over 130 years of Colorado skiing
Go back in time ... High speed detachable quad lifts, warm plastic
boots and turny shaped skis are the products of years of research and
development. The early lifts were primitive, but they got skiers to the
tops of the mountains. Leather boots and wooden skis were tough to use,
but they slid on snow. At the museum, you can see the old equipment, as
well as the hardships the early recreational skiers had to endure. Take
a break from a vigorous day of skiing in Vail or Beaver Creek, and
travel back in ski time.
The Colorado Ski Museum is open every day from 10am - 6pm. For more information, please visit the Colorado Ski Museum website.
